HOW TO FEEL GREAT AFTER JET SETTING

Because I love to jet set around the world, I wind up spending many hours of my life in airplanes. As you jet setters know, you don't always feel so great after a long flight, and I've had many bad experiences. Over the years, I have slowly learned the tricks of how to bounce back and to feel great after jet setting. Here are the 5 things I do to make sure that I arrive at my destination feeling my best...I thought I'd share them with all of you!
1- EAT LIGHT: (that’s not too hard on a plane these days) and don’t drink anything carbonated or else you may wind up with gas (a.k.a "jet belly").
2- STAY HYDRATED: Drink at least one 8-ounce glass of water for every hour of flying time. If your body is properly hydrated, you will be more flexible and your muscles won't cramp up as much.
3- DON'T DRINK TOO MUCH ALCOHOL: In general its best not to drink any alcohol when flying, but if you do drink, try to keep the alcohol to a minimum—it’s also very dehydrating and I've read that your body metabolizes it differently in the air than on the ground (1 drink in-flight= 2 drinks on the ground).
4- SET YOUR WATCH TO LOCAL TIME: I change my watch after take off to the time zone of my destination and I set my mind to the local time. I try to get in sync with where I am right away. Unless you have to make a call home or there are business hours/meetings that you need to be mindful of, forget about what time it is back home.
5- SLEEP: Get some sleep on the airplane if you can. I find that Tylenol PM always helps me catch some zzz's. With some sleep you will feel more rested and if you are jet setting overnight, it will help you to reset your internal clock to the time of the place you’ll be visiting.

GEOTHERMAL & CIRCLE- A GOLDEN COMBINATION

For every destination, there is always a to-do list of things you should see and experience while jet setting. In Iceland, two of those things include an outdoor bath at one of Reykjavik's geothermal pools, and a drive to the Golden Circle. That's how we planned to spend our second day in this beautiful country. We hired a local taxi to drive us around for eight hours. Since there were four of us, the cost was about $200USD per couple.11AM- We headed to Laugardalslaug Pool- Reykjavik's biggest pool, and also the largest pool in Iceland. The price to get in is $360ISK per person. There is an awesome water slide, a large pool and smaller hot pots that are similar to hot tubs. Volcanic water keeps the temperature at a mellow 29*C for the large pool and between 37*-42*C for the hot pots. Note: The city's pools are free of chemicals, so you must shower naked before getting in. Don't worry, men and women have separate locker rooms- but if you are shy about being nude in front of others- this may not be for you.12:15PM- Back in the taxi and on the road to the Golden Circle. Gulfoss, Geysir and Pingvellir are unique sites commonly referred to as the Golden Circle.Pingvellir is a national park about 20km east of Reykjavik. This is a place of spectacular beauty- a place where you feel like your pictures cannot do it justice. It is like being in another world when you are here- it truly is amazing! You can spend hours walking through this immense rift valley which is caused by the separating North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. We then continued on to Gulfoss- Iceland's most famous waterfall. It is a double cascading waterfall that is the biggest in Europe.
After Gulfoss, we got back into the car and went to see the Geysir. Its pronounced Gay-Zeer. This is another of Iceland's most famous tourist attractions. It's the original blasting hot water spout (temperature of 230*C) after which all other geysers around the world are named. There are a few in the area to see, some bigger than the others. The most reliable geysir of all the ones is named Strokkur- which goes off every 5-6 minutes. So have your camera ready! Also be warned that it is sort of smelly like rotten eggs from the sulfur. That night, back in Reykjavik, we went to The Fish Company for dinner. The restaurant came highly recommended from our waiter the night before at Dill Restaurant- and he was right! Here's what we had:
Fried Icelandic Lobster, butter cooked carrots, sheep sorrel jelly & Brennivins eggfoamJamaica spiced tunafish, pear-lime foam, deepfried softshell crab & bacon powder
Butterfried rack of lamb in fresh herbs, saltkiot & parsnip, burned mushroom & blueberry-baconsauce
Olive oil sous vide Baccalo from north of Iceland & squid in pirl pirl, plum tomato & black marengFor deesrt we had banana & coconut cake, that came with roasted coconut chips, fresh papaya foam & homemade vanilla ice creamDinner was another incredible experience!Afterwards we stopped next door to Restaurant Reykjavik to the Ice Bar. Believe it or not, this is the ONLY ice bar in all of Iceland!Actually, I should point out that it's not really even a bar, but instead a converted meat locker within the restaurant that has walls lined with ice blocks. You pay $1500ISK per person to get in and they give you a big coat to put on- then you go in and they give you a drink. You can either choose to have Brennivin or a cocktail which is made with vodka, wine and sprite- it's very fruity, but very good. Although the experience is sort of cheezy, I woulod definitely still recommend it. It's really cold in the room, so if nothig else, it's fun to bundle up and take some pictures.A bit of walking around and we worked up a mini appetite again! We went to Devito's Pizza for a slice. This place was voted best drunken slice and best pizza in Reykjavik. We had a pepperoni slice. Everyone puts garlic oil and lemon pepper on the slices- DELISH!Tomorrow read about our Glacier Hike and our time at another geothermal pool!

"NO TRICK, ALL TREAT" HALLOWEEN SALE- $31 FLIGHTS

Just heard about this travel deal and wanted to share it with all of my jet setters...
JetBlue is offering a promotion where you can fly to any destination JetBlue flies to for $31 one-way (provided they have an extra seat they haven't already sold). Sounds too good to be true? It might be. The trick is that you have to fly after noon local time on Halloween (October 31st), and the fare doesn't include your return flight. The offer applies to all nonstop US routes that JetBlue flies to. So it may not be "All Treat" and maybe more "All Trick", but hey, it's worth looking into.

FASHION FRIDAY: VERSATILE VESTS

Fall is the perfect time to wear a vest...and I absolutely love that. Vests are great to throw on and wear as your only outerwear, or they are also great to layer underneath your coat. I am getting ready to jet set to a cold destination pretty soon and so I have been shopping around for the appropriate things to pack. Here are some of the vests that I have my eye on...

The Gap has this great Puffer Vest for only $59.50. It comes in black, off white, brown, navy, or my favorite one...fushia! It has pockets and a detachable hood as well.

If you want to splurge a bit more, JCrew has this Sherpa Puffer Vest for $118. It comes in brown, sage, grey, navy, ivory, and peach. The reasons why I really like this vest (even though it's more expensive) are that it's goosedown filled so it's really warm, it's also lined with fleece which makes it warmer and comfy, and lastly because it hits low at the hip. This vest does not have a hood. For something a little different, but still cute, Forever 21 has this Toggle Fleece Vest for $27.80. It only comes in this dary grey and cream color, but it's lined with fleece so it's comfortable and will help keep you warm.

FASHION FRIDAY: ICE DESTINATION & FIRE FASHION

It's called the land of Fire and Ice...and it's home to some of the largest geysers and ice caps in the world. I'm talking about Iceland my fellow JetSetters! And it's on the top of my list of places to visit right now because it's a cool destination that also has some hot and rare fashion. Plus, how many people do you know who have been to Iceland? Wouldn't it be neat to say you've JetSetted there?

First, a little to know about the Iceland: While our spring and summer is their high season (also the most expensive times to go), Iceland still has plenty to do the rest of the year. As long as you don't mind a lot of hours of night (which I actually think sounds really cool), or bundling up to keep warm...if you travel to Iceland in the shoulder seasons of fall and winter you will get much better rates and will also be able to see the Aurora Borealis- some of the coolest natural light displays in the sky!

Now to the fashion: Lava jewelry! Yes, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings made with natural lava from the volcanoes of Iceland..that screams fire fashion to me for sure! Check out some of the designs I found. And with prices starting from $50, it's a smart purchase because it won't break the bank!
