REVELING IN THE AMAZING REVEL

Happy New Year 2013 Jet Set Smart readers!  Hope everyone had a safe and fun holiday and good travels.  I wrapped up my 2012 with a trip to the new Revel Resort in Atlantic City.  In one word...it was AMAZING!  My husband and I have been wanting to check it out not only because it's the newest hotel resort and casino on the Atlantic City boardwalk, but also because we wanted to support the shore since business is hurting up and down the Jersey coast thanks to Superstorm Sandy.   I'm working on writing up an in-depth post about the hotel, its restaurants, and what we did while we were there.  In the meantime, here's a couple of pics I snapped with my i-phone for those of you who don't follow me on Instagram or Twitter.

FASHION FRIDAY: SHORE STYLIN'

I have spent many weekends this summer in Asbury Park, New Jersey and I am really digging some of the boutiques there! And because I love to keep up with the latest trends when possible (and only when they won't cost me a small fortune)...I want to share some of my great recent finds with you guys.

First is this bracelet from Bodega Shoppe right on the boardwalk. I was in the store last week and heard the owner on the phone saying something about a bracelet. As soon as he hung up I quickly asked what bracelet he was talking about and he pointed to this one saying "The phone's been ringing off the hook because it's featured in the October Issue of Family Circle magazine." Well that was music to my ears...I grabbed one in black for myself and a light purple one for my friend. The bracelets are made from vintage jewelry so they are truly one of a kind...and for $60 I am tempted to go back and grab a second one!
Next is this wristlet by Nahui Ollin which is made of recycled candy wrappers. I found it at a store called My Sister's Favorite Things on Cookman Avenue. Since it was my sister's birthday and I thought the name of the store was too cute...I bought one for her and couldn't help myself from getting one too. I like the concept of this bag and I think it's a great conversation piece, plus with all of the colors it goes with everything. The wristlets start at around $40 and the handbags can cost around $200- depending on which style you choose.

ASBURY PERK!

Home to the Stone Pony (the place where Bruce Springsteen performed early on in his career)...and now undergoing a major revitalization...Asbury Park, New Jersey should be renamed Asbury Perk! It still has a way to go until it comes close to other shore towns, but I'm telling you guys...it's perking up and is definitely worth checking out!

Cookman Avenue- the main street from the train station- used to be lined with dilapidated buildings and empty store fronts, but now there are coffee shops, restaurants, retail shops, and even a high-end dog store! (Yes- I have a dog and love that sort of stuff)

And the boardwalk which used to have not much more than a run-down HoJo's (Howard Johnson) is now filled with eateries, boutiques, high-end furniture & home stores, miniature golf , a water park for the kids (open only in the summer), and fancy condominiums.

By car, it'll take about an hour & 20 minutes from Manhattan. New Jersey Transit also runs frequently daily and on weekends http://www.njtransit.com/ and will take about 1&1/2 to 2 hours from Penn Station.

My husband and I went a bunch of times over the winter (on the warmer days, of course) because the beach & boardwalk are dog friendly that time of year. We've also gone a bunch this summer and continue to be amazed at how it keeps on getting better. I definitely say you should check it out for a day trip, maybe as a Labor Day getaway, or in the fall shoulder season (JetSetSmart idea!) when the weather is still nice, the water's warm, and the rates go way down.

Here's some ideas of where to stay: (Plus they are pet friendly!)
